BioYorkshire strongly welcomes the work of the Rt Hon Chris Skidmore MP and the publication today (13th January 2023) of Mission Zero: Independent Review of Net Zero. You can read the full report here
As the report sets out, reforming the relationship between central and local government to give local authorities and communities the power they need to act on net zero, as well as catalysing R&D and innovation to deliver new scientific and technological advancements, will be crucial to meeting the UK's net zero targets.
In particular, we were pleased that our evidence submitted to the Net Zero Review was acknowledged, including our recommendation that facilitating investment will be crucial to the delivery of the net zero transition - including through developing stronger tax incentives to enable businesses and consortia like BioYorkshire to develop net zero carbon services.
As set out in the York and North Yorkshire devolution deal, the region already has the ambition to be net zero by 2034 and become England’s first carbon negative region by 2040. BioYorkshire is recognised in playing a vital role in this. We will continue our work to develop a regional cluster of excellence for the bioeconomy, delivering innovation, inward investment and high value jobs - all with the aim of delivering on national net zero ambitions.
